Professor Francesca Klug OBE steps down as Freedom from Torture Chair of Trustees

Freedom from Torture announces with regret that Professor Francesca Klug OBE has decided to step down from the role of Chair of Trustees for personal reasons.

Professor Klug had been a trustee since January 2016 and chair since March 2016. She joined us with a distinguished background in human rights, including authoring a number of influential publications. Her commitment to service user engagement, core to the values of Freedom from Torture, has been unwavering. In the time that she chaired our board Ms Klug made a great contribution to the governance of the charity; we will feel the benefit of her involvement for years to come.

Francesca Klug says;

"It has been an honour and privilege to be Chair of Freedom from Torture. Over the last 18 months I have had the pleasure of meeting many staff and service users and been struck by the dedication and professionalism of staff and the courage and determination of service users. It is an exceptional charity that I will be proud to go on supporting in the future.”

Our two vice-chairs, Melanie Essex and Peter Atfield will be acting co-chairs until the appointment of a new permanent Chair of Trustees.
